Guinea pigs are easy to care for, it doesnt take much to keep them healthy and happy.

HOUSING.
One or 2 guinea pigs do not need a huge amount of space, but as a rule i would say always get the biggest hutch that you can afford or have the room for.
You can keep you guinea pig in an indoor cage inside your house, or in an outdoor hutch in your garden or shed. If keeping your guinea pig in the garden , then site the hutch in a shaded area as this will help to keep the sun off the hutch and kep your guinea pig cool. Also try and site it in a sheltered area away from draughts and rain. In winter if outside make sure you cover the hutchh at night with a waterproof cover to keep your guinea pig snug and warm

Clean your hutch out once a week. Line the bottom with newspaper and cover the newspaper with a layer of soft wood shavings. Add a genorous amount of hay as this will keep your guinea pig warm and he/ she will eat it too.

FOOD.
Guinea pigs love to eat, they spend lots of time each day doing this.
Feed them a good quality guinea pig Mix or Pellet food. Plenty of Hay and fresh Greens and fruit.
Grass is great so you can put them on your lawn in a run as long as you have not treated it with weedkiller or grass treatment.
Guinea pigs should have fresh water available at all times. Change the water every day.

KEEPING CLEAN.
Guinea pigs don't get realy dirty if you keep their cages clean. However they do benefit from a bath once in a while. If you choose to do this then you will need a basin such as a washing up bowl with around 2 inches of warm water NOT HOT!!!. pour the water over your guinea pig until the coat is wet, pour on a small amoiunt of small animal shampoo and rub gently into the coat, use the water to rinse the shampoo off, then rinse again with clean water, towel dry him/ her then finnish up with drying the coat with a hairdryer on a cool setting.

HEALTH.
guinea pigs are generaly healthy little animals, but if they become ill then they should be taken to the vets for a check up and teatment if needed.
